Choose the Right Medical Plan for Your Travel Needs

Avoid Pitfalls

Did you know that you cannot see a doctor in the US without a plan that the doctor accepts? Simple things like getting a medicine or getting basic bloodwork can be 10 times more expensive if your plan did not pre-negotiate a price for you.

Yes, the US healthcare system is complex and unlike any in the world.

Firstly, it can be very expensive without the right coverage. Almost all healthcare providers and services (doctors, clinics, hospitals, labs) have pre-negotiated rates with insurance networks.  If a provider is not in a network, they might not even see the patient or if they see, they might charge 3-10+ times more than what in the US is URC (usual, reasonable & customary). Many insurance providers will deny such claims leaving the patient responsible. Hence, without the right plan, it will be nearly impossible to get quality care at reasonable prices.

A second thing which the US healthcare system relies on is maintenance of good electronic medical records and automated processing of data/records. Not having access to good records, can result in delayed/erroneous diagnosis and treatment. These can also exponentially increase your cost, especially if you get admitted.

Many traditional travel plans have gaps in coverage and conditions that can affect your quality of care and how much you have to pay if you need to use healthcare services.

Understand What Is Neccesary for You

Your Primary Care Physician (PCP) helps manage your health, maintain your health records, and coordinate your care with other providers or hospitals if needed. Most healthcare needs, including sick visits and chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension, are managed at the PCP office.

Visitors to the US should consider the Primary Care Plan to manage their health, which is likely all they will need. Many frequent travelers and MyPhysicianPlan users have the same PCP for multiple years and also get an annual physical and lab work to keep their medical records up to date.

You also have the option to add specialist and hospital coverage with the Primary Care Plus Plan to ensure you are protected in the event of a health emergency or hospitalization.
